If only Knitpicks had interchangeable 2s and 3s, this wouldn’t be an issue… but …
The owner of my LSS showed me how to do 2 socks on one circ (magic loop). The pattern she used to shw me was one that she had adapted from somewhere. The pattern starts out with #3 needles, and you do 3.5" for the cuff, then change to #2 needles.
Of course I’m home and it’s time to change needles and the LYS isn’t open until Tuesday. I have both socks on the #3 needle, and I have no clue how to move them to the #2.
This is my first pair of socks ever, and so I am tempted to just leave them on #3s for the entire thing since it’s a learning exercise and I’m sure they will be unwearable anyway.
Really? I won’t lose the magic loop that way?
(yes, I am doing 2 socks at once)
So I use one end of the needle to knit half of the round (both socks) and the other end of the needle to knit the other half of the round?
Actually, you’ll knit all of the stitches with the same end of the new circular for the first round. Knit the first half of each sock, then kind of pull that same end of the circular out a ways (the other end of the new circ will be at the beginning of the round, don’t pull it out too far!), then continue on with the same end of the new circ, knit the second half of each sock off the size 3 on the other side. When you finish that round, you’ll have all the stitches on the size 2 with both ends of the new circ in the position you need them to be.
