Changing colors

So I found this pretty chart that I want to make into a blanket, but I am having some trouble with changing colors (single crochet). I know that you have to change it when there is two loops of the last stitch on the hook. My trouble is that after I do several rows of crochet, it looks messy. There is no definite “right” or “wrong” side distinguishable (which is bad). How do I keep the “right” side looking good? I know this probably sounds confusing, but if anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

You can carry the yarn and crochet it like they do in tapestry crochet. I would hate to say cut and rejoin each time but that is a possibility. How often do you change colors? every row or every couple of rows?
There is a right and wrong side to crochet. The right side is the side where the tail before you hide it from the chain row is to your left.

I just recently did a video on my website on changing colors, referring to the solid granny square, but the concept would be the same for pretty much any crochet. You can find it HERE and see if it helps.
