Changing color sequence in Petite Knit pattern

Hi! I have just joined this forum, and I have a howto question. I sm knitting the Olga sweater by Petite Knit, and have never done this type of construction before. I want to make wider color blocks with some narrowet color stripes inbetween, but am not sure where to start the color change because of the strange construction with the back trapezoid and then the shoulder section. I was thinking it might be best to just change to the second color where the front and back join. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Really classic sweater with all PetiteKnit’s attention to detail I’m sure.

You could try charting out the upper yoke with the wider colors blocks you’d like. The stripe color changes are already there so their width should be able to be altered.
Of course this will be easier for the lower portion of the body but it may not be as daunting in the yoke once laid out in a chart. Even a diagram will help here.

Although not a color block in the body, this project may be another way of thinking of color changes;

Thank you!

Depending how tricky the design of the stripes is you might be able to just count rows in the pattern for the back and front to the underarm join. If they are equal then you’ll know you can just start your stripe design at the top, if they are not equal you can work backwards from the underarm to figure out which stripe to start with at the top.

It’s tricky in this pattern because there are German short rows in the back, and the length of back and front is determined by inches not number of rows…

In patterns where measurements are given rather than number of rows I usually work out how many rows it would be in the pattern gauge, and then how many rows the measurement is in my own gauge if it’s different. I find it helpful when i want to position a stripe or motif in a particular place.

Ok, that’s a good suggestion. Thank you!
