I loved knitting this sweater. It’s done from the top done and has only two short seams: one each on the underside of each sleeve.
The pattern is E. Zimmerman’s. The yarn is Tahki cotton classic. This somewhat grayed-down shade of pink gives the sweater an old fashioned look, I think.
Also…this is my first time posting a photo to this forum. I have resized the image to 500 pixels wide using Photo Finale, which I have never used before. If anything goes wrong, please forgive me.
beautiful job on that bay sweater. I too made one of those recently, but I had a heck of a time in the mounting of the sleeves . the problem is that I made a mistake in continuing the lace pattern uninterrupted. I ended up with a “big gap” in the front of the sweater, I gave it away anyhow since it is traditional to not make “perfect” pieces. we are human afterall. the baby gets my blessing!
Wow, I’ve never been complimented so much! I’m blushing.
The sweater is a gift for a niece.
Notes on the pattern:
I knitted it on a circular needle because I use circular needles for everything. But the pattern is written specifically for “two needles”, and it probably would be easier to knit on 2 straight needles.
I had a few moments of serious self-doubt when, after doing the sleeves, I had to pick everything back up onto the needles. I think the right front of the sweater was not “at the same stage of development” pattern-wise, so I had to fudge by knitting back and forth on that section for one row in order to get it back into sync with the rest of the sweater before I could put it all on the circular and motor down the home stretch to the bottom of the sweater.
Binding off the garter stitch borders on the wrong side in PURL gives a nice edge, I think.
MrsJSD –
I love your sweater! The pattern and the color are beautiful. And I too love the vintage style of it. You did a wonderful job. Thanks for posting it. Can you tell me which Elizabeth Zimmerman’s book the pattern is in? I do not have any of her books, but I would especially love to get the one with this pattern.
Thanks a lot.
