Cast on at beginning & end of row

I am knitting a baby sweater using 7 hr toddler girls sweater ( a take on the 5 hr sweater). The baby is only 2 months old but we are reaching the end of our colder weather and want her to use next winter too. Anyway, it’s top down and I put the front on holder and cast on 2 using backwards loop on my left needle then knit those and across 30 stitches and then cast on 2 more turned and purled back. It seemed a little loose at both ends and I tightened up as best I could as I came back. This section is all for sleeve. Did I do this right. I guess if any gaps I can fix when I do the seam, which I finally understand that. I just want to make sure before I proceed on.

Maybe this one?

Sounds correct. The cast on sts will become part of the underarm seam so a little looseness won’t be a problem. If you’d like a sturdier cast on use the cable cast on here but a backward loop is fine for this small number of sts.

Thanks for mentioning this pattern. I’ve made lots of 5-hour baby sweaters (takes me at least 2 days to do one) and I’m happy to see the larger size for toddlers.

Yes that’s it. Thanks for the feedback. I will proceed on but will try the cable cast on for the second sleeve. It will certainly take me longer than several days which is part of reason for making bigger size. After all I certainly want the little one to get more than a few wearings after putting in all the time. I should of planned this earlier. Oh well.
