Carrying yarn up the side on a shawl

The label on the yarn reads ‘Knit with 2 hanks in assorted rows (2-4)’

I have been carrying the yarn up the side but it is a problem in that it is the edge of a shawl and it is bulky :hair: I have knitted about 13 rows now, I know I will need to :frog:

There are six skeins and only one of them has a marked color difference, definitely darker than the others. I thought I could use it alternating with another ball at both ends of the shawl. The other balls will be fine to use for the middle.

Any help would be appreciated.

TYVM and may the knitting  be with you.

This is a problem. Sometimes changing every 2-4 rows is done with multicolor yarn to prevent pooling and sometimes it’s done to integrate yarn from different dye lots. It’s still going to be slightly more bulky on the side where the yarn is carried. You can catch the yarn every other row to hide it a bit but the extra yarn will still be there.
Could you use the darker yarn at the beginning and end as an obvious stripe and call it a design feature?
