I’ve had this happen with Caron SS also (as well as with other yarns). What I didn’t get was that SS is stated as being no dye lot, but I can see a distinct difference. I thought no dye lot meant that all skeins would be identical?

Thanks, she had surgery on top of her head and it was totally shaved, so I used the scarf to cover it up and it turned out great. Here’s another. Such a ham! Her name is Cricket. Her biggest fear (aside from thunder) is the whistling X-Files tune (at beginning of every show) she JUMPS into my arms until it goes away!

New to the world of knitting, and started my second scarf, when I saw a knot binding two pieces together in the middle of the skein. I kept knitting, but it is extremely noticeable. Bad part, is this scarf was going to be a Christmas gift for a dear friend, but I’ll just start a new one for her. It was Lion Brand yarn, and I wrote the company to inform them of my disappointment. I also informed them that I was extremely hesitant to purchase any of their product for future use. It just surprised me to find something like this in a higher priced product.
Hi. You’ll find many yarns, even ones more expensive than Lion - the yarns you find in a real yarn store - will have knots in them. Up to three in a skein is ‘an industry standard’ they say. The less expensive acrylics sometimes don’t have any. So it just depends. The knots happen when the yarn on the big spools break as they’re being wound into skeins. I pull on the knot and if it gives a little I’ll cut it out and reknot it because I know mine won’t come undone. Most people do just cut them out and join the way they normally do at the end of a skein.
It’s not that unusual although always unhappy to come upon a knot in a skein of yarn. And sometimes there’s more than one! Even though it’s a scarf, you can cut the knot out of the working yarn and join the new end as if you were joining a new ball of yarn. There are videos for various methods on the Free Videos tab at the top of the page under Tips. Sometimes you can do this in the middle of the row and sometimes it’s better to back the join off to the beginning of a new row and then weave the ends into the edge.
Haven’t had this happen too many times, but it’s never been an issue for me personally.
Simply Soft is on sale at Michaels for 2.50 a skein instead of like 4.50. I had to stop myself from buying a bunch, especially considering just this morning I went through my yarn collection and came up with so much stuff I need to use up!
I have found knots in this yarn a couple of times, but not a change in texture. I just untied it and treated it as starting a new ball of yarn. Is kind of annoying, tho. Linknit41
I have some older Caron simply soft yarn that I liked for a scarf and hat. However when I bought some newer skeins the yarn was not nearly as soft as the first ones I bought. Wonder if they changed manufacturers?
I have not had any change texture in the middle of a skein, though they do seem to have more knots in them than other brands I’ve work with.
