So I’m making a blanket with it, not one to really put on your skin, more so above a sheet if you wanted to sleep with it but more for like a blanket I can put in some grass.
How is this going to wash? Will it make it softer once I do wash it?
I’ve also done a bunch of knits and purls to make a diamond border…will that pattern look the same? I read that if you ironed it (yeah I know you shouldn’t iron acrylic, but someone did it) the knit and purl patterns seem to disappear…
This is my first blanket project, so I figured if I want to use it this summer outside in the grass or sand, I better not go with some high quality yarns
Anyone have any other tips for me with this yarn? I saw “1 Pound” and I got excited I didn’t have to buy so many balls.
After you wash the blanket it will be soft enough to snuggle up with. I have made a TON of blankets with this yarn. I actually have a 30 gallon blue tote with nothing but Caron 1 pound skeins in it, plus one of the jumbo space bags full! When a local department store that I worked at went out of business in 2001 I bought all of thier yarn! That was before it was 9.99 a skein. I wash my blankets in warm water with tide and downy then dry it in the dryer on high heat. It doesnt seem to affect the stitches but makes the blanket really soft.

I have several such afghans given to me by family members over the years and one of them is so soft it’s like snuggling to a cloud. The one on my bed however, is stiff as a board, still, but very warming. I think it was crocheted with two strands, I don’t really know. Most of them get really soft with a good washing, especially if you use a fabric softener.
For you Caron fans - I needed another skein of Caron jumbo prints to match some I had, so I went to the shopcaron.com site. I got what I needed, but also noticed that they have “mill end one pound bags” for $3.49. You take a chance because you can’t pick your colors, but I figured, what the heck, I was already paying the shipping for the one thing I needed. I can always use extra odd colors for charity blankets or pet snuggles. I ordered 2 pounds for fun, and it came in the mail yesterday. I ended up with a nice medium gray, and a lavender. I started a pet snuggle with the gray, and it’s really soft! It’s just marked “acrylic”, but it feels like Simply Soft. I might be hooked on this stuff - cheap but decent yarn.
They had some of the mill end one pound bags at Big Lots a couple months ago. Most of it did seem to be SS, some of it looked to be the regular caron, maybe the one pounder mill ends. Can’t remember the price, but it was about the same.
No, these were prepackaged mill ends; some with the same color, some with mixed colors. But they also had some Lion yarns and phentex, which looks like it may be the same as Patons, the patterns inside the label were the same style as theirs are.
