Cardigan knitting pattern help please!

Hey all, I’m knitting a cardigan for my daughter, I’ve only just started this project and I can’t work out how to "Yoke
With RS facing, place sts from holders back onto needle in the following order: Right Front, Sleeve, Back, Sleeve, Left Front "

I’ve tried to join these together twice and I just can’t work out which way the sleeves should be facing. Both don’t seem right. Do the sleeves face the RS or WS along the other work?

The arm hole gaps jusy don’t look right either. I’m close to starting over so any tips please help!

Welcome to the forum!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
All the pieces of the cardigan should have the RS or public side facing out. This site has nice diagrams and a photo to show you the joins.

Did you knit the sleeves in the round or back and forth? If the sleeves were knit in the round, the gap at the underarm should line up with the bound off sts at the underarm on the back and front.

Hey thanks for your response! The piece so far knitted was not in the round and all back and forth. The pattern is https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:EU:0644a21c-ef9c-4326-9d77-27f51410860a

So looking at the pattern to join the arms in the gaps where the arm holes are, it seems really obvious where the arms should go but I attach them, start knitting again and the stitches are going wrong so I assume I’ve attached it wrong. It looks like the way I’ve joined it the arms are going to be seemed facing outward which also seems wrong too but the stitches are now flowing. I think I’ll undo it and try attaching again. Thanks for the diagram, that’s really helpful:)

Usually you have the gaps in the body where sts were bound off at the armhole (6sts at each armhole). Those bound off sts line up with the sleeve bind offs (8sts total, 4 at each end of two rows). If the stitch number is off then the pattern won’t align so you may need to check the stitch number on all the sections and adjust to the exact number given.
Very pretty pattern. Thank you for the link.

(You saw the correction for the fronts? There was a version of the pattern that confused right and left fronts. The fronts are designated as you would wear the sweater.)

So is this how I should join it?

That looks like the correct order. You’ll be knitting across the sleeve instead of those held sts for the underarms. (You’ll get back to those stitches under Finishing.)
I’ve been looking for a pattern for a child and yours is perfect. Thanks so much for the link.

Thank you and also glad to have helped
