Can't even knit 1 row! Question about long tail cast on!

Hii, how are you? Ok I need help- what do I do with the tail that forms in the long tail cast on?
I do the cast on, then when I start to do the first row with the purl stitch I get confused.
I don’t understand if I need to let the tail get caught up in the knitting or keep pulling it down.
-what I mean is, when I do the first purl stitch the tail gets looped up and over the yarn that is hanging horizontally between the 2 needles. Do I unloop it back down each time or no?? Help! Thanks!!

There is a video of a small project that might help you along. It is under “Tips”. Generally, the first stitch or two I do with the extra tail, and then I drop it and just leave it hanging.

Hi, thanks for the reply!!
Ok so what you do is you let it be looped up 1 or 2 stitches and then pull it down every time after that?
I may have watched that video but I will check again- thanks!!

You can knit with it for a few sts, or just cut it to about 2" and let it hang to weave in later on. I usually redo my cast on so I only end up with a couple inches anyway unless I want to use it for the seams.
