Hi, I’m making this blanket as a gift. How can I wash the blanket before sending it? I’m worried about it losing shape, coming undone, colours running, etc. Perhaps best not to bother? Any tips/advice very much appreciated!
What yarn are you using? If the label says machine wash and dry that’s what I’d do. I did a cables and lace afghan in Brava worsted and threw it in the washer and then dried it. It came out fine. I knew that’s how it would be treated by the recipient. When I finish an afghan I send it though the laundry.
edited for typo
As long as the yarn is washable, you should be fine with washing it in cold or cool water. Maybe weave your ends in a bit more, making sure to double back.
Definitly check the laundry lable on the yarn first. Maybe make a swatch with all your colours and put that through the machine first to see how it goes.
Personally I’d prefer to wash before gifting because otherwise the person receiving it will feel terrible about destroying it if it doesn’t hold up to washing. If a yarn is hand wash only you can send over a yarn band with the laundry instruction on in the the gift package.
