C’mon gals (and guys!) I don’t know about you all, but I am getting pretty tired of hearing all about these yankees wonderful yarn stores with great prices! There has to be some canadian equivalents! Anyone for suggestions?

Um…I work at Walmart…they have some decent prices sometimes 
My mother in law keeps telling me about a place in Southern Ontario she wants to take me the next time we vist them. I have no idea what it’s called or where tho.

As far as online stores, the only one that I’ve found to be decent at all is www.yarnfwd.com they have a Canadian store that shows all prices in canadian dollars and shipping costs in canadian dollars too. Their shipping prices are decent, and that’s the part that usually kills me when purchasing internationally. I mostly just go to Lewiscraft or Michael’s, sometimes Wal-Mart (hey, I’m not ashamed to admit that acrylic isn’t that bad!) and we have an expensive LYS that I go to ONLY if I absolutely need to.

Are you talking about brick and mortar stores or online ones? KnitPicks unfortunately doesn’t ship to Canada, but I believe Elann and Knitwerx (both of which have banner ads on KH, just keep refreshing until they come up) are Canadian-based and you can view prices in Canadian dollars and they of course ship to Canada. :lol:
Knitpicks does ship to Canada, but of course when you factor in exchange rate and shipping it gets to be quite pricey for what SEEMS to be fairly economical yarn. For example, I bought 5 balls of Knitpicks Shine for my picovoli sweater, and at $2.29 (I think) per ball, when all was said and done it was about $25 Canadian.
Ram Wools has an online and print catalog, as well as a brick and mortar {one of the 2 LYSs I use personally!}. They’ve been in business for eons, and have a good selection online and in the catalog, and even better selection in the store.
Cambridge Mills in Cambridge ON has excellent deals on mill ends… they also supply 1lb bags to WM {and other retailers too I imagine} across Canada.
Camilla Valley Farms is a place that I’ve heard all kinds of good things about. There’s a website for it, but I don’t have it handy.
I don’t know how often Mary Maxim has a sale, but the annual tent sale at Spinrite in Listowel is a great place for a road trip… even though I have heard that the more recent sales haven’t been as good as years past.

I use yarnsale.ca for yarn. And of course the Len’s Mills stores are great now. They used to have a small selection, but are now carrying alot of high end yarns/wools. This week was lily chin week, so all her stuff was half price. I have ordered from yarn picks, but found it a little pricy after exchange on my credit card, the extra shipping etc. The sock yarn cost me about 5 or 6 dollars a ball. Although the customer service was great.
If anyone is near Toronto or London, Ont. Len’s mills is a great stop off point. Excellent prices and lots of hard to find wools.
There’s a Len’s in Cambridge too that my best friend frequents. The one that she goes to mostly has the Cambridge Mills upstairs, so she gets two stash trips in one! :cheering:
