I am knitting the Cable Jacket and as I am not a new knitter I have a problem with the pattern.
It says to Patt 21 more rows, I am assuming this means to repeat the 5 rows 21 times ?
I am not sure if thats what it means as the rest say Work 9 rows or Patt 17 rows or cont in pattern and work 21 rows. So confusing
By itself, patt 21 more rows should mean just 21 rows not a repeat of 21 times.
Continue in pattern and work 21 rows or work 9 rows or patt 17 rows also mean just that number of rows, not that number of repeats.
If you’d like you can quote the row exactly or post a photo showing that row. Don’t give us more of the pattern due to designer copright please.
Thanks, however I still can’t understand that cause the first 5 rows is where I am at , and not sure how to get to 21 rows? I am think that row 2-5 make the pattern and that’s what I need to do 21 times. Hope this makes sense
Yes, you’re correct. Repeat “The 2nd to 5th rows …”
After your Row 5, a right side (RS) row, begin the repeat with Row 2, a wrong side (WS) row. The repeat continues with Row 3 (a repeat of Row 1, RS) and Row 4 (a repeat of Row 2 WS). Every Row 5 will have the cable crosses.
You only need to work this for 21 rows more however, not 21 repeats which would be 84 rows. The pattern is clear when it says “Patt 21 more rows.”
Then you’ll begin the decrease section. The initial pattern rows plus the 21 rows (red line) are a relatively short portion of the back before the decreases begin.

For some reason I can’t seem to understand what they are saying. I can only inc on a rs row and need to inc for a total of 12. The pattern is saying
Cont in patt , inc in this way ( which is a knit row), at the end of 6 foll 6th row?
So do I inc on every row? The even rows are the wrong side and are all purl?
And it’s a inc as a knit 2 kfb
The pattern wants you to increase every 6th row. If you increase on the next right side row, call it row 1 then the increases are on rows 1,7,13,19,25 and 31. That’s every 6th row. The pattern is also telling you when to stop the increases. That’s after you’ve worked 6 increase rows. Those 6 rows are the ones listed. You can make those on right side rows as a kfb.
If it’s a total of 12sts increased then it’s probably at the beginning and end of the rows. For the 6 increase rows that would be a total of 12sts increased.
That’s what I thought but it also says at the end patt 17 rows . So it’s 31 then an additional 17 rows?
You’ll work 31 rows in pattern with the decreases everiy 6th row. Is it after that that the pattern has you “patt 17 rows”?
It looks like the dec are the ones at the blue line and the 17rows in pattern are the orange rows. Then there must be some other direction, perhaps some shaping to follow.

Oh, ok so the decreases are in the upper section, approximately at the orange line (at either end of the rows). That makes more sense than the way I was thinking.

Does the pattern say exactly this? “At the end”?

Also are there two kfb or 1 in the pattern row?
It might help to type out the exact row which demonstrates the increase, where it is positioned and what increase it is.
@salmonmac the pattern says increases, not decreases. You listed rows for increases initially and then switched to decreases in the next reply.
