Cable Row Repeat

New to knitting and have a pattern that has a cable instruction that says K12, p3, k1tbl, p3, C8B, p3, k1tbl, p3, k23, work from* to * but working C8F into place of C8B, k to end. Its a 10 row repeat with cable every 9th row, does that mean that every 9th row the cable if alternated between front then back on the next 9th and so on? very confusing but help!! please

Welcome to KH!

What is the name of your pattern and designer?

It may be that one column of cables is C8B and another column is C8F rather than an alternation of C8B and C8F. Knowing the name and designer will help.

I do not know the designer soz but its from a book “The knitting Bible” Row 9

The first time you work through the repeat (the sts between the asterisks) on row 9, work a C8B. The next repeat, work C8F. So you’ll be working both C8B and C8F on each row 9.

Fabulous thank you…..( I wish they just said that like you did!)

Enjoy working the jacket and all those lovely cables!

I love how this is described as “ a straightforward knitting pattern […] makes a great second garment for a newcomer to knitting”. It’s actually quite tricky to work cables and the pattern looks far from straight forward. The writer must expect the new knitter to have a lot of skills already.

If you need more help as you go along don’t hesitate to ask.
