Cable mittens

Hello. Taking a break from the Christmas sweater and turning my hand to some cable mittens.

I’m stuck on what this instruction means after the pattern of 10 rows - work 12 rows in patt inc twice for thumb gusset (as before) in next and every foll 4th row at same time working ‘cable’ on 3rd and 11th rows.

My understanding is doing the 10 rows pattern and then work 12 more rows on top of that. Is that right?

The pattern is SIRDAR design no. 5761.

Thank you (as always)!

Good to take a break sometimes and work on something small.

Can you post a photo of just these directions or give us an exact quote including the 10 initial rows? Don’t give us more than that section of the directions due to designer copyright please.

It does seem that you work 10 rows with gusset increases then work a further 12 rows with gusset increases on rows 1,5,9 at the same time as cable crosses on rows 3 and 11.

The photo on the cover of the pattern and in Ravelry shows the gusset starting right after the ribbing, probably the gusset increases that occur in the first 10 rows.

I’m hoping this is in line with what you were asking.

Thanks for the photo. Yes, work the first 10 rows then continue with an additional 12 rows with gusset increases on rows 1,5,9 (and 13 if needed to get to 54sts).

I haven’t seen thumb gussets worked like this so it will be great to see a photo of your finished mittens. Just in time for winter, too.

So am I basically just following the pattern? Like it tells me where to increase for the thumb gusset doesn’t it?

I’ll keep you updated, that’s if I get them finished for then :joy:

Yes, keep going with the pattern increasing on the rows indicated and working the cable crosses as listed.
