Cable knit scarf... it's curling

Hey All,

Trying a little harder pattern, then just the knit and purl stitches. I am doing an allover cable pattern and making a scarf. (will promise to post when finished) It’s coming out rather great, for my first “intermediate” project.

The problem is that it is curling on the sides. When the scarf is completed, would blocking be the answer to my problem?

Also, I am kntting on chunkier yarn. And everytime I slipped the cable needle into the back or front, it would slip out and fall. So, took some advice and purchased some bamboo DPN in size 10.5 and it worked like a charm. No slippage and easier to knit back onto your regular needles, because of the size of the needles.

blocking only works if you are using an animal fiber yarn. If you are using an acrylic, then blocking won’t work.

Thanks for the advice… It’s part wool, so I will try it and see what will happen.

Think I may add lots of fringe to see if that might help.

When knitting my first cabled scarf I also found that it curled. I too used a yarn that was part wool. To my disappointment I blocked the scarf twice and neither time worked to uncurl it. However, I eventually hung the scarf by one end and steamed it, which worked like magic!!! I have since learned (after knitting several other cabled projects) that I was knitting my cables much too tight (usually by pulling on the yarn after knitting in front of or behind the stitches on the cable needle). Since learning how to cable without pulling so tight my cabled scarfs no longer curl and finish beautifully!! Hope this helps :slight_smile:
