Butterfly baby blanket/chart

I promised myself I wasn’t going to start any new projects until I finished everything that I currently have on the go, which is about 6+ items! Anyway, I broke my promise and started a blanket for my sister’s best friend who is due in August.

I found this beautiful pattern, but I do not understand the chart- I am glad it has written instructions too! On rows 5 and 6, the pattern only shows my K1, P1 twice, then K21- what do I do here? Just repeat the K21 until I have 4 stitches left then p1, k1, p1, k1??

The pattern does not indicate how many repeats are within the little box. and I am experiencing difficulty with reading the chart. Can you please explain this to me in words? (I have followed the Knit Picks How to Read Knitting Charts- which provided clarity on reading a chart, but I just do not understand this one). I have made this with the recommended stitch count of 119.

Work chart squares 1-7 to begin. Then work the 10 stitch repeat in the yellow box 10x, up to the last 12sts. For the last 12 follow chart squares 18-29.
(You can calculate the number of repeats by subtracting the first 7sts and the last 12 from the cast on (119) leaving you with 100. Since there are 10sts in the repeat that’s 10 repeats.)

Yes, on rows 5 and 6, knit across all the sts from one seed stitch border to the other. Rows 11 and 12 will be the same.
Lovely blanket! I’ve added to my favorites.

Thanks Salmonmac! I so appreciate your helpful advice- You are so knowledgeable about knitting. I am so happy to have found this site a long time ago. You have helped me immensely!

I kept track, and I only had 9 repeats within the box  with enough left over then to finish the pattern, and the fact that it had some written instructions with * helped.

That’s interesting. If you count working the yellow box once plus 9 repeats it works out to the required 100 sts total with the remaining sts before and after the repeat counting for the other 19 sts.
It’s always slightly ambiguous when a pattern uses just the work repeat.
Glad that you have it working. It’s going to be very pretty.
