BT and FT stitches

Hello Anyone and Everyone!!

:?? HELP – i need a visual or a better way of interpreting some instructions in a pattern. If a you can provide a visual link, that would be very helpful. Anyway, the instructions read as follow… "cast on 3 sts, k3, sl next st to cn and hold to front, k1, k1 fron cn (FT), k to last 2 sts, sl next to cn and hold to back, k1, k1 from cn (BT) – i know these instructions are the start of a sleeve, but i’m clueless with the ‘holding front/back’ part. what is being held in the ‘front’/‘back’??? however, i do know these stitches are suppose to form into back/front twists sts.

thanks so much for all’s participation.

The next stitch on your left needle is being held in front or back of the second stitch, which will be knot first.

The instruction slip stitch to cn means to slip the next stitch to be knit onto a cable needle and lay this needle on the front (or back (behind the needles)) of your knitting. Knit the next stitch on the left needle and then pick up the cable needle and knit that stitch. Does this help? Watch Amy’s video under Advanced Techniques/Decorative Stitches/Cables. It should make it even clearer. Good luck!

D’oh! I went to Adv. Tech to look for a video on cables and didn’t see it.
