Brioche inc. in pattern

I am attempting my first shaped two-colored brioche project, Eleonora Shawl, by Raina K. I keep starting over and over, because I cannot for the life of me, end up with the correct stitch count. The pattern says I will have 7 sts. when I complete Part A, (Set up), Row 1. Is that the first row I should end up with 7 sts.? I seem to be getting 9. Thanks for any guidance.

What is the name of your pattern?

It may be in the way you are working the increase, the brkyobrk. That should increase 2sts giving you 7sts total. (Don’t count the yarn overs as sts but think of the slip/yarn over as a single stitch in case that is confusing the stitch count.)

Thank you, thank you, salmonmac! I kept getting 9, but I was counting the YOs! Really appreciate your reply. I have only made 2 washcloths in brioche, and that was several years ago, but I figured I could tackle a project with a little more shape now. The pattern is Eleonora by Raina K. Love this forum!!

I’m glad it’s so easily solved. Brioche is a lot of fun to work and Raina K’s patterns are lovely.
