Hi: I recently viewed a Youtube video on braiding yarn ends together to avoid having to weave in the ends. I have heard that it’s not the best way to join a new yarn, but I would like some input from those who have used it successfully.
Thanks, Teresa:muah:
Braiding yarn ends to join
I’ve used this method successfully for wool and wool blend yarns (particularly when wool is the predominant fiber in the mix). It works well with wool because you can felt the two ends together, but it doesn’t work that great for acrylic or cotton or bamboo. I’ve used the Russian join for acrylic.
I’ve tried it with acrylic and it works fine with it too. If the yarn is slippery you might have to make a longer braid, but it will stay joined. You would just clip the ends that pop out, after you’ve finished.
