I have k158 up the front but it does not bring to the back of the neck after i have done 7st increase row so should i need knit 158sts before i get to the increse row.
Check the distribution of sts up the front and along the slope at the neck edge. You should be close to the correct number of sts. A few sts off might be due to measurements or row gauge and that’s ok but you don’t want the border to pull in or ripple.
The increase section should occur at the back of the neck. That’s important too.
To hopefully clarify a bit:
Starting at lower right corner, you picked up
8 stitches along the rib
100 stitches evenly distributed along the front edge (108 stitches)
46 stitches along the shaped edge/front neck curve (154 stitches)
30 stitches across the back of the neck (184 stitches)–this is where you’ll do the increases on the next row.
46 stitches along the shaped edge/front neck curve (230 stitches)
100 stitches evenly distributed along the front edge (330 stitches)
8 stitches along the rib (338 total stitches)
I would put markers to show each of these sections, and at center back. The increase section is going to be across the back of the neck.
Knit 158 stitches, increase in next stitch, (k2, inc) x7 (8 total increases), then knit the remaining 158 stitches. This brings you back to the lower right corner, where you started the border.
