What exactly is meant by “twisted” here? :??
- Pick up and knit twisted 16 stitches along first edge of rectangle.
Are the stitches twisted already? Are you supposed to twist them? That one little word has completely confused me.

You knit them through the back of the loop… it twists them and makes a tighter pick-up so as not to have holes! :eyebrow:
Wow, I am glad I asked, because I never would have figured that one on my own! :notworthy: Thank you!
One more: It says to pick up 16, then 34, then 16 stitches - that only accounts for three sides of the rectangle. Am I missing something?
I’m so glad you are asking these questions, I have the SAME ones! I was just gonna wait til Friday and BUG the IL Knitters!! :eyebrow:
It always helps to look at your knitting before asking… I was missing something - there are already 34 stitches on the needles!
I just looked at mine and am unsure where to start picking up stitches. Should I pick them up on the needle closest to my working thread or furthest from it? I’m SO CONFUSED! I’ve never knit in the round before OR picked up stitches. Are there any clear pics someone can point me to?
OK, I figured out WHERE to start picking up stitches and picked up the first 16, but forgot about the twisting part. HOW do you do that?! I’m CONFUSED! :wall:
You can knit them through the back loop on the next round. I think it’s to tighten them up a little. If you don’t I think it won’t matter after you felt it.

I don’t think it will really make a difference whether or not you twist them (by knitting thru the back loops) because I forgot to do that on mine and after felting it looks fine.
That’s a great tutorial. Thanks!
So, if I’m picking up twisted, then my needle is going in through the back? And the yarn is in front and the stitches I pick up look like their coming from BEHIND the row? Does this sound right??
The pattern says:
*Pick up and knit
Sooooooooo, do I pick up the first 16 and then knit all the stitches that are on the needle (50)? Then pick up 34 and knit all the stitches, etc?
I’m so mad because I worked the bottom piece already and then picked up ALL the stitches and then started knitting in the round.
Do I need to frog this and start again?
UGH!:hair:
Pick up and knit is the same as ‘normal’ picking up stitches.
You can pick up without wrapping, but when you wrap, then it’s pick up and knit.
So just pick up all the way around the bottom. It sounds like you did it right already–pick up and start knitting in the round.
Phew! I feel better now! Thanks!
