BOND ELITE KNITTING MACHINE - Help

Hi
Ive just bought a 2nd hand bond elite…Ive watched video and read the start up guide…what is happening is when I bring needles forward and put over the plastic weight then elastic then fold the plastic sheet back over, it brings the needles on bed raised so therefore carriage wont pass over, so I have to hold the weighted plastic up with one hand to put the needles down again then try to operate carriage with other hand surely this cant be right…tried without the weights but thats a nonstarter…surey there cant be anything wrong as its such a simple machine…???
Thank you

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
There aren’t so many machine knitters here but there are some. Be patient and someone with the right experience will notice your post.
Sorry not to be able to help.

Yes, this forum is mostly hand knitters, but a few may have used a machine.

I’d like to recommend that you join www.Ravelry.com (free; no fees and I’ve never NEVER received any messages from Ravelry except for one emergency message two years ago).

I just performed a Search at Ravelry on the phrase “machine knitting” and found 124 matches, indicating that there are many groups there dedicated to machine knitting.

I don’t know whether you can make use of this link without being a member of Ravelry, but the Machine Knitting group has over 5,200 members and is very active, judging from the message list. The other group most likely to be of help to you is bonders, “For users of Bond Knitting Machines - Ultimate Sweater Machine (USM), Incredible Sweater Machine (ISM), Elite, EZ Knitter and more.”

Hope this info helps!

Hi,

DCM had a great idea for using Ravelry as a resource.

You have to use weights to use any knitting machine. I suspect you may not have enough weight on your plastic comb to hold the yarn down so you can knit.

Most of use more weight than the machine set up comes with. I used S hooks over the weighted plastic comb, and hung coffee mugs on them. I’m all about inexpensive fixes that work.

Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Good luck
