Blocking Mats

I need to buy mats for blocking, but I need something big enough to be 50 x 55ish. To buy that many is so darn expensive. I found these multi-purpose mats on Amazon, but don’t see anything about them being heat-resistant. What do you think?

I have 2 sets of Knit IQ mats. They are absolutely worth it imo. They are thick, sturdy, can take the blocking pins and not be distorted after. Also have lines/grids on so blocking is easy.

A knitty friend went through a couple of cheaper thin playmat type mats, then after the second set she bit the bullet and got some Knit IQ’s. She said she should have got them in the first place and loves them.

KnitIQ mats are also EVA foam.
So yes EVA foam is heat resistant. :slightly_smiling_face:

Go with the thicker foam with the better price.

Does smoothness matter to your blocking? Grid lines? Size of tiles? Color?

I use flooring mats I got at Lowe’s. They’re 2’ square, so it’s a lot faster to hook together a good-size mat. I think they were $23 for 4 (16 sq. ft.). I only wet block, so not totally sure about heat resistance, but EVA foam is used for insulation, so I’d think it would be fine.
