Still a semi Newbie Knitter, just finished my first baby blanket for a co-worker. I’m using Blue Sky Cotton, I never blocked before…can anyone guide me through this and if I espectially need blocking materials for the entire blanket (50+ inches long) Are there any homemade materials that I can use?
I’m no pro, but here’s what I do: I use my cutting board (the kind for sewing, not cooking!) and lay the item on it. Then I spray with water (doesn’t seam to hurt the cardboard of the cutting board) and stretch, pull, push, and basically shape the item to the measurements. You can use weights, string, pins or whatever works to get the item to hold its shape. Be sure to get it wet enough, but not dripping. The water really seams to help with the shaping. Of course, what you do may also depend on the type of yarn and the pattern. Then let it dry!
Hmmm I was wondering since it’s such a big baby blanket can I block it on the floor with plastic underneath? How long are the pins? I want to make sure the edges doesn’t curl up and my YO look even:muah::happydance:
