Binding off at the end

Hi everyone,

I’m knitting a tank top from Green Mountain Spinnery, and unfortunately I cannot find any sort of link to a pattern or picture of it. However, the piece is worked in the round, with a marker placed halfway to divide the front and back stitches for the tank. I’ve already begun the armhole shaping by binding some off and moving the stitches for the front to some waste yarn, and I am now focused on the back of the sweater. The instructions are as follows:

“Working back and forth note that rows 2 & 4 of the pattern are now purl rows. Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows. Then decrease 1 st each end every wrong side row 4 times.”

How would I bind off at the end of the wrong side row? I did the bind off at the beginning just fine, purled across the remaining stitches, but I cannot see how I’d do this. If there isn’t a way, or isn’t an easy way, could I just finish purling this row, turn the work so the right side is facing me and bind off a stitch at the beginning of this row instead?

Thanks,
Kelly

You’re not binding off on every wrong side row. You’re decreasing. Probably just using a p2tog or something like that.

Yeah, I thought it was weird that it said bind off, too. I just finished my first sweater, and when I shaped the arms I did have one row where I bound off, but the rest was all decreases. So do you think all of this is decreases instead of bind offs from where it starts with “Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows” forward?

I suppose that you could really do either. I’d bind off for the beginnings and just decrease for wrong sides.

Sounds good. Thanks so much!

" Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows. Then decrease 1 st each end every wrong side row 4 times."

The doesn’t say anything about binding off at the end of any row. BO at the beg of the next 4 rows - thats on the RS, WS, RS, WS. Then on the next WS row you would dec at the beg and end of each row by doing a p2tog. I don’t know why you wouldn’t dec on the RS rows though… that’s more normal. So you could do the decs on the RS row after the last BO row.

Ha! You know I completely read it as bind off the entire time, and only after when you pointed out that it says decrease on the WS did I go back and actually see it. Boy, I clearly didn’t have enough coffee today when I tried knitting.
