Bind off on RS vs WS

I Wanted to take a little poll…Do YOU bind off on the wrong side (back) or right side (front)?

Thanks!!

I always bind off on the right side, except sometimes, when I do garter stitch, I’ll work the knitted bind off on the wrong side so the purl ridges will continue all the way to the top.

I don’t know…I bind off where the pattern tells me to.

Most of the patterns I’ve used tell where to bind off, but I have come across a few patterns that say to knit for ‘so many inches’ and then bind off. In those cases I’ve been binding off on the right side, but I don’t know if that is the correct thing to do.

Generally the right side unless there is a reason not to. I just find it easier to bind off in knit.

Thanks everyone!

The reason I ask is because I’m making a blanket and sewing 49 pieces togethor and i hate that the bind off edge is SO visible. I always assumed it was done on the right side. I thought if I did it on the WS it might look better.

THANKS!!

I usually BO on the RS, but for some things, I do it when I’ve got just enough yarn left to do the BO. Yes, it’s easier on the RS on a knit row, but you can cheat and BO on the WS without purling. Purl the last row with a needle about 2 sizes larger, then starting at the beginning of the row, take a crochet hook and pull the 2nd st through the end st. Repeat. It’s the same as a BO and can also be done on a knit row too.

I usually BO in the WS if the item has to be seamed and bind off in a knit stitch, it seems (no pu intended) to make it easier to seam.
