Bind off/Cast off on Dpns

Hi. Could anyone please tell me how to Bind off/cast off on double pointed needles? I am using three needles with the stitches on and the fourth one as the working needle in the right hand. Did find some instructions from a vogue knitting book which I don’t quite understand! It says to use the free needle to cast off the lst needle in the left hand until one stitch remains and then use that needle to cast off the rest i.e. is it the one stitch which remains on the right hand needle after casting off the first needle or do you leave one stitch on the left hand needle [i.e. the first needle you cast off of] :??

Don’t leave the last st on the right needle, just knit the first one on the left, and pass it over that one, then knit the next st on the left needle, etc. BO just the same as you would on straights, carrying the last st over to the left needle.

Thanks for replying Suzeeq. Sorry must have my thick head on today! I can’t quite undertand what you mean, sorry. Right I have the three needles with the stitches on and the fourth is my needle to start casting off with so I am knitting the first stitch off the left hand needle with the empty right hand free needle, I then knit the second stitch off the left needle on to the right hand needle and pass the first stitch over the second stitch on the right hand needle thus casting off one and leaving one on the right hand needle [as binding off with straight needles] but where do I go from here? i.e. when I have cast off all the stitches from the first needle, say, I will be left with one stitch on the right hand needle and a free needle again so where do I go from here?

Then drop the free needle and use the right hand needle as the new free needle.

Thanks Suzeeq, think I have finally got it!:happydance:
