I recently bought Big twist baby Bear yarn. The original baby bear yarn was a wt of #5, bulky. The new skeins are #6 wt. I’m not sure how many stitches to cast on , and what size needles to use for a knitted baby blanket, now that the weight is a #6. Can you help me?
Have you swatched? Are you using a pattern, and if so which one?
I would do a swatch with your preferred needles first, see how you feel about the knitted fabric then calculate the stitches you need for the width of your blanket. Are you doing stocking stitch or a pattern?
I don’t really have a pattern I make one up myself But, thinking of doing basket weave
I was thinking of doing the basket weave pattern
I was just surprised that they changed the weight of the yarn from #5 to #6 ,since it’s the same brand of Big Twist Baby Bear .
I can do stockinette st with a border . That would be fine.
If it were me I’d knit about 40 sts in basketweave and get a fair idea of gauge then cast on and start knitting. I’ve been known to make some absolutely huge swatches. ![]()
