Big hole in garter stich

Hi.
I made a baby blanket for my nephew and my SIL washed it. It has a pretty big hole in it. How can I fix it? I’ve seen some videos but they are mostly for smaller holes or stockingnette stitch.
Thank you for the help!

Welcome to the forum!
Such a pretty blanket and such a shame. It does looks fixable however. There’s a video for stockinette that may help with the basic steps of closing the hole. Once you’ve secured the set up on long holders or double pointed needles, it’ll be easier to see how to repair.

One way to repair garter stitch is to work the knit side, then flip over to the opposite side and again work the sts as knit sts. Like this:

If you put a different background behind the hole, it will be easier to see where to work the yarn in. You may not even have a broken end so it may just be loose strands.
I’m sure there will be other ideas here as well. Good luck with it and let us know how it’s going.

Here’s an another picture of the hole. I’m going to try to repair it tonight.
Thanks for the help!

It looks do-able. Take it slowly and you should be able to get this fixed. Are there any broken ends? The stitch work is lovely.
One other possiblity is to repair this in stockinette and then once you have all the stitches accounted for, change each column of stitches to garter.
