What’s the best (not too expensive) yarn to make felted potholders? I need reds, greens and golds. I know I’ll need an all animal fiber. Any good deals out there that y’all can recommend? My friend is re-doing her kitchen and I thought it would be a nice gift, but I don’t have tons of $$.
Double stranded Wool of the Andes, from KnitPicks.
I’ve had good experiences with Galway, available online or in your LYS.
Double stranded inexpensive worsted wool works just fine. I do recommend double stranding for sure though. I have a single and double stranded pot holder and the single strand doesn’t work as well. I can feel the heat through it to the point that I really don’t want to use it anymore.
Thanks for the input. I’ve been looking at KP WOTA in cranberry, fern and daffodil. Can anyone with a color card (or experience) tell me if these colors will look good together?
Does anyone have a link to a (free?) pattern or just simple instructions for potholders? I’d kind of like a basic color with stripes going AROUND it, rather than just stripes, but I’m not sure that will work with knitting. I don’t know how to crochet…
They go together, but double stranding for sure, like Jan said.
Okay! Thanks a bunch! I think I found a pattern at the KP website. Has anyone made these?
Edited to add: I just noticed that the pattern calls for KP WOTA BULKY. Will this work instead of plain WOTA double stranded?
Okay, I REALLY want this to be PRETTY for my friend. I can’t decide which colors green and red would look best. There’s only one yellow/gold. But which of the 7 reds and 6 greens really look GREAT with Daffodil??? Wish I had the color card, but I can’t wait for that before I order. Am I best going with Fern and Cranberry or is there a better combo?
I don’t think any of the color combos in WOTA BULKY will work, so I’m thinking double-stranded WOTA Worsted. I just need help with colors. Anyone with a color card willing to put in their $.02?
I think doubled WOTA worsted would work, but it doesn’t say on that link if it uses double bulky.
Anyway, I made a bag with cranberry and fern and it’s gorgeous. The colors are opposite on the color wheel so they are complimentary.
Check here for more patterns under felted items and kitchen I think.
