Best stitch for tote handbag handle

I’ve knitted a tote handbag in bubble stitch. Which stitch is best for the handle?

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
It depends on the look that you want for the bag but a sturdy handle that doesn’t stretch out is one way to go. Something like linen stitch or maybe herringbone stitch is a possibility. A leather or sewn cloth handle is an alternative.

These aren’t quick stitches to knit but they are pretty and not too stretchy.

If you know how to crochet this will be nice and sturdy.

If you want it strong you can put a bought cord/strap that is stable and non-stretchy attached to the bag and cover in knitting which will look attractive. Then you can have a pretty stitch without worrying about stretch. Or a strong crochet strap inside a knit strap.

There are various straps which you can buy which look lovely and add a professional looking finish to a hand made bag too.

Thanks for the link salmonmac. I don’t have a pattern, just knitting shapes. 2 rectangles for front and back of tote and 3 thinner rectangles for sides and base. Now working on 2 handles. Will post pic when finishes.

Thanks ZKOhio. This looks great. I don’t crochet but will search for something similar in a knitting stitch.

Thanks for the tips Creations. I actually was thinking of a bamboo handle but they’re quite expensive. Since this bag will be my knitting bag I’ll stick with a sturdy knitted handle.
