Best sock knitting book?

Hey everyone. I have a thing for socks. A big thing for socks.
And mostly I’ve been jazzing up a basic pattern, which I love. But I think it’s time for me to get a sock book. Any suggestions?
I think I’ve looked through Favorite Socks before and was surprised that so many of them are gooorgeous. But do you guys have a fave sock book? Which is the best, with the most beautiful, versatile patterns?
I don’t need one that’s really basic, like how to knit a sock, but just one with great patterns and maybe interesting tidbits.

Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush
Folk Socks by Nancy Bush
And the next book I want to add to my collection is Knitting Cirlces Around Socks: Knit Two at a Time on Circular Needles by Antje Gillingham. I keep thumbing through it and just never seem to actually buy it. I do have a bonus 10% off coupon for my next purchase at B&N, but I still think the Amazon price of $16.47 is better.

As you can see I really love the patterns by Nancy Bush. They are just so lovely!

I have been eyeing that Knitting Circles Around Socks as well. I am new to sock knitting and am thinking I want to learn on circs. I think this is going on my Christmas list! Thanks for the great info!

I have Sensational Knitted Socks and think it’s a good book. It has lots of basic info and info for adjusting fit to specific needs, plus all the patterns and many optional stitch patterns as well. There is a second SKS out, but I don’t know much about it.

I have Getting Started Knitting Socks on my wishlist.

I didn’t like Folk Socks myself. I wasn’t interested in the history, but if you are then it’s a good book.

Gee, does Jan know me or what? :teehee: I love history and found Folk Socks to be a great read. I also like vintage clothing (as do my dd’s) and especially foreign ethnic styles. Being that I am half Icelandic (and half Heinz 57) I’m drawn to the Scandinavian patterns.

I don’t dislike history, but it wasn’t what I expected. I wanted patterns and sock help more like SKS. As for vintage clothing… not so much. :teehee:

I want the Knitting Circles book too but I can’t decide between that and this one :

2 at a Time Socks

Anyone have either or both of these books and have an opinion?

Kelley Petkun gave this book a great review on one of her podcasts. Sounds like a great basic book to start knitting socks with.

2 at a Time Socks is done with Magic Loop, the other is with 2 circs so pick your poison and then go for it. OR if you use ML you can always just use Silver’s tutorial for 2 socks with ML.

I love both Charlene Schurch’s Sensational Knitted Socks books.

Rachel,

I’m surprised that the New Pathway for Sock Knitters hasn’t been mentioned–I did a small review on my blog and a review on the Getting Started Knitting Socks.

For a new knitter I think that both are great.

Sock on,
