A nice garter border on all 4 sides. It must be substantial.
Also, seed stitch, too.
This is the sleeve for Bettna (on the blocking board now), but you can see the garter edge for the ‘cuff’. It is 14 rows of garter (7 ridges) and it ain’t gonna roll nowhere! :teehee:
You might not need 7 ridges to prevent ‘roll’…but at least 3.
Same goes for the side borders. At least 3 st wide.
St St has her own mind, and she’s hard-headed. She will ‘roll’ if you don’t give her a reason to do otherwise! :teehee:
Here is a ‘seed st’ border. It didn’t roll at all either:
Oh my goodness, Artlady - are those sweaters ever adorable! and the colors in the Bettna sleeve are very very attractive. I wish I lived near you. But then, maybe you don’t, hehe…what I pest I might be!
I went to our little knitting group this morning and did this:
While waiting for people here to answer, I cast off the dark purple after completing another ball, turned the work upside-down and picked up stitches with the 3rd color (medium blue).
but do you see what I see? The dark purple is now rolling over. So I guess I’ll finish the entire blankey, and then go pick up edging stitches and do what you suggest. I am liking the look of the seed stitch very much. Is that single seed? k1p1?
You sure are a beautiful knitter. Thank you for answering.
Shaped edges (see TechKnitter --her blog or on ravelry)–for a detailed description and WHY it works
Go with the roll
instead of garter, you can use 3 rows of stocking knit, 3 rows of reverse stocking knit, (repeat for a total of 12 rows–or repeat again for 18 rows!) this edge will corrigate… the controlled rolls will make a great edge –
you might want start with 24 (or 36) extra stitches, and decrease at the beginning of each row (and latter pick up stitches on side and work the same edging OUT, (increasing 1 stitch at each edge as you do) and then sew the mitered corners-- a very pretty edge!
a basket weave (or for that matter, any stitch pattern that has a balance of knits and purls (like ribbing, or seed, or double seed, or the controlled roll of the X rows of stocking knit/X rows of reverse stocking knit) works…
If you can go back to the purple, undo the bind off and about 6 rows and do them in garter, that will prevent the curl. If you’re going to seam that edge to something else, don’t worry about it, the seaming will take care of that.
