Best Cast On for Socks?

What cast on method is the best for top down socks? I have been using the long tail cast on and it works good, but is there a better one? Thanks.
Sandra from SC

I always use the long tail cast on, and I cast on over 2 needles so that it is looser.

I do that too. I was wondering if another cast on might be more stretchy. Thanks for your quick reply.

if you’re doing ribbing, I suggest alternate cable cast on. It’s stretchy just like the ribbing.

Give the Old Norweigian cast on a try. http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/
Amy says this is tight for her and suggests going up a needle size, but I find I don’t need to do that. I’d suggest trying it both ways with scrap yarn, ribbing a few rows after, and seeing which you like better.
