Ok so why would I be wanting to know some of the best baby knitting books out there? Well of course I found out this past weekend that I will be a Grandma…:cheering:
Of course I personally think I am too young to be a grandma but since I wasnt consulted on it I think I will go all out on knitting baby stuff, :knitting: and feel like a very young grandma.
So since I have not knitted or really paid any attention to baby stuff I need the titles of some good pattern books to get. Things like blankets and, well other baby thingies. Any ideas will be appreciated.
I like - Knits for Babies and Toddlers by Fiona McTague.
It’s an older book (copyright 2001) that I picked up at Half-Price Books, but it probably wouldn’t be too hard to find.
It has girls and boys patterns, plus some blankets and toys. There are layette outfits and sweaters complete with booties and hats. I like it also because several of the patterns have embroidery on them (if you desire to do embroidery with your knit).
I don’t know how old you are. I was made a Nana in late March and I am 40. I think that is a young grandma, but as you say I wasn’t consulted either. lol
I got lots of my patterns online - They have some really cute things I also got several Bernat books with baby things in them… (the small books) I got the book of booties from Annies Attic online and I love it. They are crocheted though.
Anyways, congratulations on becoming a grandmother.
“Natural Knits for Babies and Moms”, Louisa Harding (The Harvey Kimono in this book is lovely.)
“The Little Sublime Handknit Book” and “The Second Little Sublime Handknit Book”, by Sirdar. Sublime have some lovely patterns, especially, I think, in the second book.
I’m a very big fan of Sirdar leaflet patterns. You don’t need to buy an entire book and then end up using just one pattern, and you can get some nice ones cheaply on UK eBay.
As someone else suggested, check out your library. I research pattern books using Google, or Ravelry is excellent for finding patterns you like, then go to my library to borrow the books.
The library is a good idea. The nice thing about that is if they don’t have what you are looking for, you can have them order it for you. It’s a nice way to see if you like them should you decide you want to buy a copy. If I see a pattern I like, I copy it; I know. . .not what you are supposed to do with copyright laws and such.:fingerwag:
I too like the Debbie Bliss books. As far as mistakes in her books, if you check her online site it has a link to corrections for any mistakes in her books.
I know this doesn’t help…but all the cutest baby stuff I find is going though my moms old books…some of them are dated…and I sometimes find it funny the way they have squeezed babies into some of the pictures in the books…but I love going through old books…there are some really cool forgotten gems in them sometimes!
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! How exciting! Grandchildren are the reason I wanted to learn how to knit. I probably won’t have grandchildren for quite some time, but I need more time for knitting practice anyway. I want to be the cool grandma who makes cute clothes and fun toys!
I have knit baby items for friends, co-workers, and charities, and already have quite a few books. I’d also suggest checking your library first before buying because I have several books that I’m not that crazy about. It seems that many baby books knit the items flat. I’ve made many baby hats in the round and a couple of sweaters too, so it can be done. This may not be a big deal for you, but I avoid seams if at all possible!
