Hi there! Fairly new with the knitting and working on a beret pattern. I have 120 stitches around, 5 sections of 21 sts separated by 3 sts.
As I change from the body of the beret to the crown, the instructions say to [K3, sl m, *sl 2 kwise, k2tog, psso, yo twice, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo; rep from * to next m, sl m] 5 times-105 sts rem.
I am confused as I feel that the instructions are not decreasing as they should unless I p2sso. What should I do??
Keelys, Is there a link to this pattern?
I agree that you are only decreasing 2 sts each section which will give you a total of 10sts decreased for the row or 110 sts not 105. There should be an extra decrease in each section and maybe it is another slip 2 and pass 2 sts over as you suggest (instead of the sl 1, psso). Try that and see if the pattern looks the way it’s supposed to. (Or maybe it’s only yo once instead of the “yo twice”. Depends on the further pattern directions.)
Yes, of course. Sue you’re correct. If you change to sl1 instead of sl 2, there’ll be a decrease of one st per 7 st repeat. Since there are 21 sts to each section, that will give you a total of 3sts decreased per section. Times 5 sections is the 15 st decrease that you should be getting (from 120sts to 105sts). I was neglecting the fact the quoted line starts with only 7 sts, not the 21 st of the complete section. Thanks very much, Sue.
Sorry but that did not work either after i looked at it, if i sl1, k2tog, psso, yo twice…i will not be decreasing at all…sl1, k2tog, psso decreases by two while yo twice increases by 2.
do you have any more suggestions?? i have emailed the creator but no response yet.
Alright, after puzzling over it and using all my fingers to do the math, I emailed the designer. As it turns out there is an error in the pattern. Talitha Kuomi kindly emailed the correction:
"Shape crown, changing to dpn when
necessary:
Rnd 1: [K3, sl m, *sl 2 kwise, k2tog, p2sso,
yo twice, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo twice; rep
from * to next m, sl m] 5 times—105 sts
rem.
Also to be sure that I’ve fully answered your questions, yes there should be 105 stitches left at the end of the decrease round. If you follow the bit of the directions above (with the p2sso included), you decrease 3 stitches every ‘section’ starting with 21 sts + 3 k sts and decreasing down to 18 sts + 3 k sts in each section. Knit happy!"
Keelys, does this work with the rest of the pattern?
