I am using 4.0 knitting round needle with 120 G baby wool to make a simple baby blanket. It calls for 177 stitches. I like putting 2 colours together in each stitch. Does this change the stitch count from 177 and / or the dimensions significantly. If so how do I modify to still end up with the 30 x 40 “ dimension.

Holding two yarns together is going to make the knit fabric larger and will probably call for larger size needles. The best way to figure this out is to work a good sized swatch with the two yarns and then count the stitch number across the middle 4 inches. That will let you calculate the number of sts to cast on for the size blanket you want.
