Here’s the first one that showed up in a Ravelry search.
There are several pages in that search to look through.

The Free Vintage Knitting website has some free bedjacket patterns. You might need to size up to 44 inches. There are some simple patterns there that won’t be too hard to alter, e.g. more stitches or thicker wool. (We can help here.)

Or how about the “February Lady” cardigan, knitted in a nice fluffy wool?
The photo shows it worn close fitting, but you can make a size that will be looser fitting to make it suitable for a bed jacket.
Thank you for suggestions. Because she is a bit bigger on the top I am going to have to hand knit this bed jacket. I was hoping to do it on my lovely bond machine but not enough needles. I have now located a fairly simple pattern and look forward to sharing the results. My mum also looking forward to seeing it so she can get her Xmas orders in for her friends in her home.
I like the sound of a bed jacket. It sounds so glamorous and sophisticated! I’m not surprised your mum is looking forward to it
