Beads on a yarn over

Good morning, fellow knitters!

I’m on the last panel of a lace pi shawl, and need a bit of advice working with beads. This is my first time using beads (and my first time trying a pi shawl). The pattern does not call for beads, but I think it looks really nice with them.

The pattern has lots of points and star/snowflakes, so my initial thought for this panel was to place the beads at the points and midpoints of the shapes. However, to do this evenly would require putting beads on yarn over stitches. I’ve searched the web and can’t find anything on this.

Will this be okay or will it change up the lace pattern? I’m adding the beads using a crochet hook, so no pre-stringing.

The pattern is Mystic Star by Anna Dalvi. My project is here: thehawkseye’s mystic star (although I haven’t updated photos in a bit).

Thanks!
Risa

I don’t see how to do that with a crochet hook without closing up the eyelet created by the yarn over. Can you put the bead on a nearby stitch that’s a knit or purl?
A bead on a yarn over would work if you were stringing the beads. You might try a small swatch to see if you can figure out a way to make this work.

It’s a lovely project.

Thanks, salmonmac!

That’s what I was afraid of. I could place them either on knits on the outside of the star, or scatter them through the inside of the shapes  I just wasn’t sure if there was some trick that I wasn’t aware of yet. Never hurts to ask

Always worth asking. There may well be another way that I’m not aware of. Maybe someone else will let us know.
