Found a nice pattern for a beaded beret in one of my books, but was wondering about whether it would be more difficult to keep on one’s head! The beads form a circle of peacock feathers over the hat’s crown. The pattern calls for Rowan wool cotton and over 1000 size 8 beads. I love how it looks but right now think it’s a little too ambitious for me, anyway.
It’s in Decorative Knitting by Kate Haxell and Luise Roberts (one of my favourite recent purchases!) if anyone was interested in seeing it.
The hat sounds so lovely. Beads can be heavy and especially so many concentrated on a hat. Can you maintain the design but scatter fewer beads around it?
It truly is lovely to look at! I’m not sure - I’ve put it on my “one day, maybe” projects list, for now. The pattern itself would be achievable with colour work, certainly, just wouldn’t look as impressive. The only other relatively heavily beaded hats I’ve seen have been non-slouchy, so really just wondered about how wearable this one would be.

I think it would be okay, so long as you make it the right size – you definitely don’t want it to be too big, so it slides off.
The only picture I can find of someone wearing it is this project:
Thanks very much for that, for some reason I was thinking it would be worn more slouchy, like an actual beret lol but it makes sense to pull it down more.
