Has anyone knitted Bawi sweater. When I knit this pattern, big holes appear on the right side of shoulder increase. If anyone knitted this before, I appreciate if you could explain how you went about increase shoulders. I thought about putting the segment of the pattern, but it was way too long to type in….
Bawi sweater shoulder increase
Welcome to the forum!
What kind of increases are you working? It’s not the short row turns causing the holes but the increases?
It’s the increase on both sides of the 8-rib that creates the big holes, particularly on the right hand side.
I’m not certain if the increase has to happen on the right side of the 8-st rib on RS, and increase only the life side of the 8-st rib on WS.
But if I do that, then the number of increases should add up to 37 rows/rounds (10 rows and 27 rounds) instead of “32 rows/rounds” as indicated on the instructions.
That’s how I got confused… So, if anyone could explain how I should increase on RS and WS as doing the GSR would be great!
The instruction goes like this:
Introduction to shoulder increases:
The sweater’s shoulder detail consists of 8 sts in rib on
each side.
The shoulders are constructed with increases on either side
of the 8
rib sts and made on every row (on both the RS and WS). The
neck
is shaped with GSR at the same time as increases are made,
so the
increase sts are worked as knits or purls depending on what
side of
the work you are on:
Inc-k: k1, but leave st on left needle, k1tbl (kfb
increase).
Inc-p: p1, but leave st on left needle, p1tbl (pfb
increase).
The increases are on both sides of the 8-stitch rib and occur on the RS and WS rows. So 2 increases on each shoulder or 4 increases total per row. The recommended increase is the kfb or pfb.
The GSR shouldn’t affect the increases. They are usually written so that the turns won’t occur at the same place as an increase. If you do find that the turn is right at an increase then I would either turn before or after the increase so that the turn and increase don’t interfere.
