I’ve decided to make a bathroom rug, using two strands of cotton yarn throughout. It will be warm, soft and cushy on our cold tile floor this winter.
Here’s the pattern I made up for it:
Tiled Bathroom Rug
Holding together two strands of worsted weight cotton yarn throughout, cast on 79 stitches with size 10 (US) knitting needles.
Knit 9 rows in garter stitch, then start the “Tile Stitch” pattern.
Tile Stitch
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: K5, P4, K1
(repeat between asterisks to the last 4 stitches), K4
Row 3: Knit
Row 4: K5 P4, K1
(repeat between asterisks to the last 4 stitches), K4
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: K5 P4, K1
(repeat between asterisks to the last 4 stitches), K4
Row 7: Knit
Row 8: Knit
Repeat Tile Stitch pattern til rug is long enough.
Knit 9 rows, Bind off loosely.
I like how it turning out! And such a great stashbuster too I wish i could knit a rug for our bathroom, but we have only a shower, which is actually the floor, so the rug will get constantly wet Don’t forget to share when it’s finished
What a terrific idea!
I’ve been scowling at the throw rug in front of my kitchen sink for awhile. If I wash it one more time, I think it will fall apart! I can make one that will last ages, wash well, and be exactly the colors I want–thanks, Sandy!:cheering:
It’s black, pale pink, and cream. The yarn came from an old Suss poncho kit I bought at Barnes & Noble. The kit was originally $30, but I got it for $10 on clearance.
(Why in the world were they trying to sell a big knitting kit at a bookstore?) :??
There were 8 skeins of yarn in the package, and I still have 5 skeins left, so I should have enough for my rug.
