Please help. I am knitting a blanket for my great niece in her university colors and am doing this is a basketweave pattern of 6 sts knit and 6 sts purl.
My problem is that I’m using 2 colors blue and gold (her school colors). I did the border in a seed stitch (blue) and the first basketweave rows also in blue. When I changed from the blue to the gold yarn, the first row looks awful. I don’t know how to change the colors so that they only look bad on the wrong side of the blanket. I would like for the basket weave on the right side to look smooth.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Happy knitting,
Betty G.

That’s such a nice idea. If you knit a row straight across when you change colors to the gold, it will get rid of that messy switch. Here’s an example for knitting ribbing but essentially the problem is the same.
Always change color on the front side for one thing. I agree that knitting one row plain may solve the problem, too.
Neat idea, I’m sure she’ll love it!
Thank you so much for your quick response. I’m going to try knitting a row across. I’m really excited about doing this for her.
Thanks again and happy knitting,
Betty
Thanks Jan for your answer. I’ve knit before but never where I had to change colors. So thanks again and this will be a new adventure for me.
Betty.
