I’m not really sure how to even ask this but I’m knitting every row in a pattern and all the purls (horizontal lines) are on the outside and the knits are in the inside. The last project I did had all the knits on the outside and I like that look a lot better when knitting every row. How do I start my project to get it to do this? My last one started with a rib (k2 p2) so I have no idea how it worked. Thanks!
Basic stitch question
When you knit every row you create Garter stitch. The little bumbs will be visible on both sides of the work.
When you purl every row you create Garter sticth. The little bumps will be visible on both sides of the work.
When you knit one row, and purl the next you create Stockinette stitch. The knits will be visible on one side and the bumps/purls on the other.
You appear to desire Stockinette stitch. So alternate rows between knits and purls.
row 1 knit
row 2 purl
row 3 knit
row 4 purl
Here’s the first part of my pattern and a picture of what the main part of the glove looks like. It sure looks like a stockinette but all the knits are on top of knits. Any idea how this works?

When you knit in the round you don’t turn the piece to work on the other side. So knitting every round gives you stockinette - knits on one side, purls on the other. You’re working with the needles on the far side of the gloves and the tube closer to you and so the purls are on the outside. Flip it inside out and have the tips closer to you and the tube on the other side and the knits will be on the outside.
Aha that makes sense. That was my first project knitting in the round. Thank you!
