I have a nasty intestinal virus that according to my doctor takes 7-10days to run its course. I am on day 5 and the last two have been so bad that I couldn’t sleep. The MD ran 2L of fluid into me this afternoon which helped the SxS of dehydration, but hasn’t done much for my innards. As I was leaving he says “if you’re going somewhere for thanksgiving I’d take some rice and a banana with you” !!! NOOOO I have to make pies and sweet potatoes and then not eat !!! puts on pouty face
I am sorry you are sick. Its bad enough to be sick but to be sick on a holiday is just awful!!! Hope you feel better soon.
I am so sorry you’re sick. That is just awful. Make sure to take home lots of left overs so that maybe you can eat it later.
First of all, sorry you are ill; however, the diet for an intestinal disturbance, to put it delicately, the BRAT diet: meaning, bread, rice, apple sauce and tea. I don’t think that will work at Thanksgiving, but we’ve all been there, done that, so let it be. There will be other holidays. Get well soon.
I know it’s a holiday, and a time when family gets together, but…do you think maybe there’s a possibility that it might be healthier for you (and the other people who are going to be ther) if you passed on it this year and stayed home and rested? I mean, if there’s a chance you might pass this nasty bug on to other people it might be more prudent to not attend.
I know I’ve missed Thanksgiving at the in-laws a couple of times when I was sick. Once was the flu, once was a sinus infection. Besides being miserable myself (and not even WANTING to think about food), I didn’t want to chance passing my illness on to 30-40 people.
Just a thought…but you know way better than I do what your situation is. Get well soon!!!
I was always told it was Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast.
Tea can be harsh on the stomach as it can have stimulants in it, or tanic acid
some teas help, but not all
and the milk is hard to digest as well
vaknitter be careful handling foods that others will eat, and touching your friends and family as the virus is prolific
be careful and get well soon

I’ve also been told it was bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRAT_diet
I hope you’re feeling better soon. Our family had one Thanksgiving where we passed around a stomach bug. Fortunately, I didn’t get it until I got home, but yuck. Try to enjoy the company even if you can’t enjoy the food.
And may I just add, don’t forget to get some acidophilus and other healthy cultures back into your GI tract, as they have all been stripped out by the illness. It will help you recover much faster.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this, especially during the holidays.
(I had it last week and the week before. I think it’s “going around” as they say.)
