I am wondering if my pattern has an error… I have knit up to row 16 twice and frogged twice, at the end of row 16, I am supposed to have 4 stitches left to knit, purl, knit, purl. Both times I tried, I had 5 stitches left. I am totally frustrated! I have knit Taiga Hilliard patterns lots and had no problems, but here I just can’t seem to get it right.
At the end of row 14, I had 125 stitches, and at the end of row 16, I am supposed to have 143- but my stitch count has been off twice and unfortunately because it is lace, it is unforgiving. Here is the pattern where I keep getting stuck!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
The sts before and after the repeat total 8sts. The repeat is 13sts. (4+1+3+1+4) before working the row. 4+(13x9)+4=125
After working the row there are 15sts in the repeat (4+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+4)
The total is then 4+(15x9)+4=143
It may help to place markers between the repeats and then go over the row naming the sts as you count the number in the repeats. It might be a missed yarn over or increase. (I assuming DD is a centered double decrease and that you are working the M1 between sts.)
Sorry @Creations but I make the stitches add up!! (I’d looked at the row before I read your reply. )
If you start with 13 stitches in the repeat, you
K 4, make 1, K 1, yo to add another, you use up three stitches for the double decrease, ( subtracting 2), Yo (adds 1), K1, make 1, K4.
This uses 13 stitches with a net gain of two stitches for each repeat ( you’re adding 4 and subtracting 2).
This should add 18 stitches giving a total of 143.
Maybe lots of pattern repeat markers will help - I know indeed lots in lace knitting!!
I deleted my post before your reply. I accidentally used 1 instead of 3 for the DD and went back to edited out my reply when I realised.
I think you’re back on track, or hope you are, after salmonmac’s post.
I agree with you about the markers. I have been using a bunch for cables which aren’t even as tricky as lace and at times I’ve wonder why I have them in as they do get in the way a bit, then, just a single time, the marker alerted me to having forgotten one stitch which needed slipping. Having the markers were worth it just for that.
