Is it worth knitting a baby onesie , or bunting for a baby born in June?
I would say maybe you could make those, just make a larger size. So it will be ready for next fall/winter.

Thank you I did think of doing that But the patterns I see are for 0-3, or 6-9 months So, I’ll need a pattern for bigger size, like a year size
Search Ravelry for baby bunting. There are pages of patterns, many for older than 9 months.
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it! I’m going to be a grandmother in June!!
Congratulations! That’s wonderful news.
Is it worth knitting a baby cacoon for a baby born in June?
Steve,
One of my babies was born in June, and they still like to be swaddled I would say a cocoon knitted with a worsted or DK cotton would be perfect and useful.
Thanks so much for answering me Can you tell me what DK is? And do you have the pattern you used for the cotton knit cacoon?
DK is a lighter weight yarn than worsted, so you use smaller needles and produce a thinner fabric (good for a June baby). I really like Knitpick’s Comfy Worsted. It’s a very soft cotton blend comes in a good variety of colors. Even though it’s called worsted, it seems thinner, like a DK. I use a Size 6 needle with it. The pattern I used was on Ravelry. I modified the pattern to accommodate the thinner yarn, and I added a flap with buttons at the bottom to make diaper changes so much easier. Instead of seaming the bottom, I bound off half the stitches (so the front side of the sack) and knitted in garter stitch for about two inches. Then I did a row with 5 buttonholes evenly spaced, then another half inch of garter stitch. The garter stitch flap matched the garter stitch neckline.
Thank you so much I looked at Ravelry at the pattern you used So it’s for a bulky yarn Can you tell me how many stitches you casted in using the size 6 knitting needles, and where can I find that yarn? Also, Sugars and Cream cotton yarn would be ok??
Where does baby’s family live?? What kind of summer weather do they get??
Thanks,
Knitcindy
Hi Steve I read your post and I thought the same ? as knitcindy, where do they live if they live in a colder climate and your family tends to have regular size babies then something for a 3-6 month old may be perfect, but another thing to consider is that older style bunting bags are difficult to impossible to you in today’s car seats and strollers .
I had one that my nephew’s grandmother knit him in 1985 and used it in 1997 with my daughter but realized that it would get little use last year when he had his first child. My middle child used one because I carried her a lot even though stroller strap and car seats had changed ( they are 9 years apart) because we didn’t have a car, but 3 years later I had a car and my third child didn’t use any of my collection of bunting bags. BUT I did use lots is knitted pants ( cloth diapers covers made of wool) , blankets & sweaters,
All babies mentioned born in fall .
I think something knit in a lighter yarn would be perfect. Babies born in warmer months still need more covering than older children and adults do. A light covering can also help protect newborn skin from the sun in warmer weather.
