Attaching ties to a hat

Hi All,

I’m very new to knitting and just bought this adorable pattern from Etsy to make hats for my twin 4 year old daughters:
I’ve never made a hat with ties before and I’m confused on how to do it. The pattern says to make the ties, one of each is on a DPN. Then it says to cast 8 stitches onto a circular needle, then grab one of the ties and knit across it, cast on remaining stitches, then knit across the second tie.
How do I knit with a circular needle and a DPN at the same time? The cast on stitches will be on the left circular needle, but then the DPN would go in my right hand, correct? How do I knit in the ties?
I’ve tried searching for videos but haven’t come up with anything yet.

Here’s the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/118098455/knitting-pattern-the-kymmber-slouchy?ref=pr_faveitems

What a cute hat. You’ll cast on 8 sts, move the needle to your right hand and hold a dpn in your left, knit across the stitches on the dpn, put the needle back into your left hand, cast on more sts, move it to your right hand, knit across the sts on the 2nd dpn. After that you’ll just be using the circular needles. HTH

Ah ok, I got it. That sounds easy enough.
Thanks so much!

I’m sure you’ll do it and it will work out just fine. If you’d like to post photos of your hat as you go along or when you’re finished we would love to see. Be sure to ask if you get stuck again.

I’ll do that! Thanks again
