Armhole edge

I am knitting a sweater…and it says to knit across 26 stitches (which I did) than place 54 stitches on a knit holder (which I did) then join new yard and knit across the remaining 26 stitches (which I did). it now says to cast on 3 stitches at the armhole edge. Could you please let me know where the armhole edge is.

Is it the stitches at the beginning of the row, or the ones at the end of the row. So once I joined the yarn and knitted across the remaining stitches, I now turn my work around and work back (is the armhole edge at the beginning of the row or at the end of the 26 stitches.??? Thanks

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

It’s hard for me to tell. Which stitches are the front and which are the back?

can anyone tell me where the armhole edge is. I am knitting a sweater and it states to cast on 3 stitches at the armhole edge…is the edge at the beginning of the row or the end of the row???

I draft nearly all my patterns and the way that is written, makes no sense at all.
It wouldn’t be a first time a mistake was printed in a published pattern. :doh: [/color]

Sorry, I cannot post a picture of the pattern… But, here are some of the directions.

I Just finished doing the garter stitch for 12 inches. It now states to knit across 26 stitches (which I did) than place 54 stitches on a knit holder (which I did) then join new ball of yarn and knit across the remaining 26 stitches (which I did). Now working both fronts at the same time, cast on 3 sts at beginning of armhole edge for sleeves (every other row) twice. . I am ready to do this but I do not know if I cast on at the beginning of the row or at the end. I’m confushed as to where the armhole edge is.

Any help???

It sounds like you’re making a cardigan. Is this right? If that is the case, the armhole edges would be on the edges of the two smaller pieces that are closest to the 54 stitches that are on hold.

So if the two front panels are facing you, you’d cast on on the outer edges of each of those pieces. So on the panel on the right as it faces you, the armhole edge would be at the beginning of the row, and on the panel on the left as it faces you, the armhole edge would be at the end of the row.

Make sense?

[color=darkblue]I’m a visual learner, so I’m not usually good discribing things, but I’ll give it a shot.
It sounds like the fronts for the sweater are at either end of your work and the center front edges are the outside edges. Which would make the armhole edges on either side of the 54 sts for the back.
And it sounds like you will have cast on 3 sts twice on each front at the armhole.

If I didn’t express that well, tell me what it says to do after that. Does it tell you how many sts you are suppose to have on each front?
I always like patterns that gave that info when I was learning to read patterns.
Also, what style sleeves does the sweater have?[/color]
